September 2004

The final drive through the night ended without incident and we arrived in sunny San Diego about 7AM on Monday morning. We passed through LA around 4AM and hit minimal traffic so our plan paid off. We are finally getting organized and unpacked. I CANNOT believe how much stuff we managed to pack into that damn 15 foot truck. It was exhausing driving all night long and then unpacking the truck most of the day yesterday. We kept working through until it was done so that it wasn’t hanging over our head. The apartment is fine. It’s just your typical two bedroom, 2 bath 70’s hacienda but it beats getting here without anyplace to live. We returned the truck and finally had a chance to nap about 5pm. Today (Tuesday) we wandered up to Starbucks to get some work done (where I’m at now). Unfortunately we don’t have internet access at the apartment and we weren’t able to hijack an open wireless connection nearby. Hopefully our cable internet will get turned on in the next few days. It’s hard to get any substantial work done on a laptop at a coffee shop.

Our apartment is in the Hillcrest area, which is about 5 minutes from downtown and about 10 minutes from the beach. It’s very convenient and almost anything you need is within short walking distance. The weather today is about 75 degrees with a great breeze and not a cloud in the sky. As soon as I get more organized and catch up on some work I’ll get out and take some new pictures of the area and our apartment.

I put a few pictures up in the photo gallery from our last day/night in San Francisco. I heavily censored the pictures but be warned, there are still some very disturbing images… especially the one of me! lol Our last night there we had a karaoke party at Molly’s house (Dylan’s sister). She had some friends come over for some drinks and singing. She has a karaoke machine in her living room, which makes for an interesting party. To really make the party one to remember, we decided to dress up as rock stars so there are a few photos of us looking like 80’s has been drug-addicted rockers. The Folsom Street Fair was probably the largest street fair I’ve ever been to, which is amazing considering it’s subject. There were tons of people walking around, most of which were just your average everyday people, some even with baby strollers, which completley astounded me. That’s just bad judgement if you ask me. Most of the fair contained lewd acts of behavior that would get you arrested anywhere else in the world. I guess that’s what makes San Francisco, San Francisco. I took a few more pictures of the sights but there’s no way in hell I’m going to post them, that is if I ever want my Mother to speak to me again. lol

Well we are back on the road again. It’s 10 PM on Sunday night and we just left San Francisco. We decided to stay through today afterall because we figured that we just don’t have that many opportunities to visit San Fran so what the hell. We also went to the Folsom Steet Fair today but I’ll have to comment on that later… and yes I took pictures but I haven’t had a chance to go through and censor them yet ;)

We weren’t that tired tonight so we figured we’d just hit the road and tackle the last leg to San Diego. The trip will probably take about 9 hours and will put us into SD early in the morning. We will also hopefully go through LA in the middle of night so we’ll avoid any bad traffic.

San Francisco was great and we had a ton of fun but it’s good to finally be back on the road to whatever is next on this adventure.

As soon as I can I’ll post an update and get the last batch of pictures up online.

See you in San Diego!!

We arrived in San Francisco about midnight on Thursday night. The drive from Dylan’s parents in Gold Hill to San Francisco took about 10 hours, a little longer then we expected and travel was slow through the mountains of Northern Cali. The drive into the city was a little hectic with lots of fast moving traffic and bad roads so we were bouncing around quite a bit and almost flipped the damn truck at one point we were rocking so bad. We are staying at Dylan’s sister’s place in the city and are trying to decide whether to stay another day or two because… well it’s San Francisco, need I say more. The weather is perfect again and yesterday we got out and roamed around the city a bit. The pictures from the last 2 days are up online in the photography gallery. This weekend is also the Folsom Street fair so we are trying to decide whether to stick around for that. The Folsom Street Fair, for those unfamiliar with it, is another gay festival similar to pride only for the leather daddy crowd. It’s a very edgy and risque event and to say that it brings out all the freaks is putting it mildly. It is defnitely NOT our scene (don’t get nervous Mom) but none-the-less, everyone says it is a must see event once in your lifetime. It would certiainly be a kodak moment. Our dilema is that we are scheduled to have the truck turned into the Budget truck rental place in San Diego on Monday morning so unless we extend a day or two, we won’t have enough time to do leather sunday and still be able to drive and unload the truck. We have A LOT to do when we get to SD so we’re leaning on skipping the Folsom Street Fair. If we stay then I’m sure the photography gallery will be interesting… there is a fine line between Drama and Trauma ;)

I’m going to try and post more frequent updates but it’s been difficult to get a high-speed internet connection and posting pictures isn’t really efficient using my pocket pc phone. Today though we were able to walk down to an internet cafe and sit for awhile and get some work done.

Check out the new photos in the gallery. I’m trying to keep the captions informative.

We are finally on the road. We departed Seattle yesterday at 1:30 PM on Wednesday and headed south for Oregon. Seattle was rainy and about 55 degrees; The quintessential Seattle day. Our first stop took us to Portland, OR to have dinner with one of Dylan’s old friends and his wife. We arrived in Portland at 5:10 PM. The weather was cloudy but dry and a bit warmer. We dined at a little Mexican restaurant, which 12 hours later had both Dylan and I doubled over with stomach cramps at Dylan’s parent’s house in southern Oregon.. our next stop. We departed Portland at 6:45 PM and arrived at Gold Hill, OR at about midnight. Gold Hill is Dylan’s home town and was our first overnight stop. Today we are off to a slow start and are finally feeling ok again after the bout with the mexican food. I was feeling ok at about 9 am but Dylan was just finally ok about a hour or so ago. We plan on hitting the road about 2 this afternoon. Our next stop is San Franciso, CA where we will stay for a couple nights at Dylan’s sister’s place. The weather here in Gold Hill is perfect, not a cloud in the sky and a nice dry 68 degrees. Yesterday we stopped at Frye’s electronics on the way and I picked up a new SD digital camera card that fits into my cellphone so I’ll be posting a few candid shots from that as well.

A few pictures from packing the truck on Tuesday and the first leg to Oregon are also now up in the Seattle to San Diego Gallery

The liquidation of all our junk has begun. Actually this is the 2nd weekend of our yard / moving sale. Everything must go. It’s amazing the things you accumulate over the years. Going through the basement, I found a half-started diary or journal in every old box. I hope this online blog doesn’t suffer the same fate.

I’m still trying to get the photography gallery up and running. I added a link to it in the menu at the top, but I’m still working with the hosting company to get the application to work correctly. Stay tuned for pictures. In the meantime, I’ll add inline photos to just the blog.

Back to the yard sale… I have no idea how all this stuff is going to fit on the moving truck.
