Here is a great little site for those of you who love a good deal. It’s like a home shopping network and eBay rolled into one. It’s called WOOT and can be found at www.woot.com. They feature one product until it sells and then they put up another one. There is limited quanity so they go pretty fast. For instance, earlier today, there was a Microsoft wireless keyboard and optical mouse set going for $29 dollars. They also had a Panasonic DVD home theater with 5 point speaker system for $79! It’s a very cool site and a great idea. Some of the stuff may be refurbished to pay attention to the details.

Check it out. Got WOOT?!

As I mentioned in my last post, Google recently released a new Beta Desktop Search tool for personal computers. There’s been quite a bit of discussion about it across the internet since it’s release. Google is a leader in Internet Search technology and has applied this technology to a desktop version. The tool is essentially a small, free 400-kilobyte file that you install on your computer and it runs in the background quickly indexing everything on your computer.

I’ve decided to start a new Blog category called Tech Trends - a sort of Zeitgiest of technology.

Zeit·geist :: The spirit of the time; the general intellectual and moral state or temper characteristic of any period of time.

There is a Category section on the right side where you can quickly navigate to new entries under Tech Trends.

I thought a new category would be fun for several reasons. I consider myself pretty technologically aware and I tend to stay pretty up to date on the latest trends and so I thought it would be cool to have a place to share and comment on interesting things I run across. There is also somewhat of a self-serving motive behind it as well, which I will discuss in more detail at a later time, but mostly has to do with search engines and how they index web sites across the internet. Search engines are completely hungry for fresh content and because Blogs are updated almost continuously, they get indexed very very quickly by search engines. It’s the latest craze in the search engine optimization and marketing business. I try to stay pretty current on the lastest SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques, and although I’m no expert, I have quite a bit of experience with it. So, for now suffice it to say that by writing fresh intriguing content about various tech related topics, I will bait the search engines to index my site regularly. I know that sounds somewhat selfish, but I promise the information I pass on will be useful and fun… such as Google’s new Desktop Search tool that indexes your entire hard-drive and then includes relevant information stored on your computer along with results from the web when you do a normal Google search. It’s amazing and creepy at the same time. So in my next post I’ll begin to discuss that and more, such as RSS (Really Simple Syndication), Search Engine Optimization techniques, and the new mobile smartphones.

Stay tuned!

I have nothing significant to really say this evening, but I felt this photo was worthy of an entry.

A few months ago I purchased a used Bianchi road bike that my friend Chase found at a yard sale in Seattle. It cost me $125 bucks, which is crazy considering the type of bike it is and the fact that even just the components and pedals are worth much more then that alone. It is by far one of the best purchases I’ve made in a damn long time. So Saturday we headed up to Blacks beach, north of La Jolla (see glider port & cliff pictures in photo gallery). I loaded up my bike onto Dylan’s car so I could get in some biking while up there. It was great. I put my headphones on and took off on my own north along the coast. I rode up to just north of Del Mar. I went across the high plateau of Torrey Pines State Park, which borders the University of California, San Diego on the cliffs, down the other side and then along the road on the Pacific Ocean. The views were perfect and I passed 2 or 3 little cove beaches along the way packed with people and surfers. It was a nice change from the urban hills of Seattle. I need to find a little cheap camera that I can take with me on trips. Roundtrip I did just under 30 miles. I need to get out and ride more often; it’s good for the mind.

My Bianchi…
