I turned 34 yesterday. Doesn’t seem possible… I feel like I just turned like 24 last year. Things are going good so far. The only real glitch we’ve run into is that our internet connection at the house got delayed until Monday so that means 3 more days of trying to work in the coffee shop down the street. Our internet connection was supposed to be turned on yesterday but the cable company told us they couldn’t get into the building to turn it on so it was rescheduled. Working in the coffee shop isn’t bad but it’s just a pain to do web work and catch up on all my little to-do’s on a laptop. We worked at the local Starbucks for the first few days but ran across a great little independent coffee house called The Living Room, just a few blocks away. It has free wireless internet and lots of couches and really good coffee.
Last night we went out to Margarita Mary’s, a cool little mexican restaurant down the street. A friend from Seattle who moved here last year and one of Dylan’s friends from college joined us. As soon as I walked in the door, the bartender bought me a shot of Tequila and then a group of ladies across the bar also celebrating a birthday bought me another shot of tequila. That combined with my raspberry margarita, had me feeling pretty good even before dinner. We met up with some other new friends afterwards, hopped a few bars, and did a few more shots I can’t recall the names of, before calling it a night at about 2am. Good times…
As our luck would have it, the last 2 days have been crappy weather, ironically similar to Seattle but a touch warmer. Today is perfect again though… a nice light warm breeze, clear and about 75 degrees. Yesterday we took a drive up to La Jolla to check out the beach. It was a little sunnier up there. The coast north of La Jolla is beautiful with huge cliffs against the beach. At the top of the cliffs there is a glider park where people just jump off the cliffs on hang gliders and these little parachute seats and just ride the air currents up and down the cliffs. It was amazing. I took a few photos but need to upload them.
So when I was about 6 (I think) my Aunt Eileen, my dad’s sister, moved away and the last known address we have for her is San Diego. My dad gave me her address sometime last year and I never did anything about it, but when I was packing my stuff, I found the address on a piece of paper. Yesterday as we were driving off to La Jolla, I typed the address into Yahoo! maps on my phone just to see where it showed up. The map showed the address just north of San Diego near Miramar Naval Air Station. Anyway, driving up the highway, we took a wrong turn and strangely enough, the next exit on the highway was the correct exit to my Aunt’s last known address, so we figured what the hell, we’d check it out. We navigated a few blocks, turned into a housing community and pulled up to the correct house number. I knocked on the door but nobody answered. I went to the neighbors and asked if Eileen Torrent lived next door. The women at the door said she didn’t know anyone by that name and that a family lived in the house and had lived there for about the past 6 years. So long story short, no success on operation Aunt Torrent. I’ve decided to keep up the search though and see what I can find out. I’m kind of curious now. I’ll keep you posted.
