Sometimes it’s just easier to post pictures rather then try to write about something. Tonight was a good Friday night. It started early, with lunch and a warm sunny afternoon walking along the beach. It continued on to burgers and martinis and then more drinks. A Friday night that borrowed time from Saturday morning.
Here is a photo narrative:

I ran across a cool little blog tool called feedmap.net. It basically geo-codes your blog feed and creates a map of your location. It also tells you what bloggers are nearby (others who have registered). It’s an interesting way to look at the neighborhood. I added it to my sidebar but I’m not sure I’m going to keep it as it uses javascript, which slows the page loading down a bit.
Here is my blogmap. At the time of this posting there are 27 people blogging nearby. Maybe I should have a blogblockparty.

Do you have a secret deep down inside that nobody else knows about? Something that you’ve buried for years and years, too scared or embarrassed to tell. Or maybe you’ve just kept it for so long that you just can’t figure out how to say it. Well now there is a website where you can share your secret anonymously. It’s an ongoing community art project. People all around the world share their secrets on one side of a homemade postcard that they mail to Maryland where it is posted on a webblog called PostSecret.
It’s an amazing compilation of little quarky notes, secrets and sayings. Take a browse through the online collection, it’s quite revealing.
This postcard struck me as particularly thought provoking. I’ve wondered about whether there are people who actually survived 9-11 but just decided to disappear. Perhaps it’s true. Visit PostSecret.

So THIS is how my friend’s see me??
When my friends and I take off on our weekend adventures, we always have multiple cameras around. I’m usually taking the pictures, but occasionally someone sneaks off a shot of me. (I’m only allowed to take my own picture… i.e. 50prime365.com). So on my roommate’s blog at Dagzilla.com he’s posted a few pictures of our weekend adventure climbing around on rocks. As you scroll down through the page… yes you see nature at it’s best… then there’s a picture of our friend Tyler, all athletic and manly and shirtless, quite model-like… then you come to… yes, me, looking like the mentally challenged Leonardo Dicaprio in Gilbert Grape. Is this how the world sees me, I ask??! LOL

Today we took a little drive out to Mission Trails Park, just east of San Diego. It’s a popular place for rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking. The hills are covered with rocks and boulders with huge flat cliffs along the tops. I added a few new photos from today to the Gallery, as well as a couple others from around town.

As is the case with most tech people, I sit behind a computer all day. In fact very often, most of the night as well, since I am self-employed. I probably get hundreds of emails a day, mostly spam but quite a few legitimate ones. That combined with the RSS Blog feeds I regularly monitor and my brain is a virtual ticker tape of information. So I’ve suspected for awhile that this constant barrage of information from all sides couldn’t possibly be healthy or productive but I couldn’t really think of anything to do about it because it’s important to my job that I stay connected. Plus I’m a tech-junkie so what the hell else am I gonna do?
Well, a new survey has just been released by a company in London that bascially concludes that this constant flow of distractions and interruptions can reduce productivity so much that it’s worse then smoking pot.
He found the IQ of those who tried to juggle messages and work fell by 10 points — the equivalent to missing a whole night’s sleep and more than double the 4-point fall seen after smoking marijuana.
The survey was done on 1,100 people and came up with several observations about how often and when people check their e-mail or respond to messages, both voicemail and text.
So in an effort to increase my precious IQ and stop all of these dangerous distractions, I’ve decided to only check email at night and smoke pot all day.

The dictionary defines blasphemy as, To speak of God in an irreverent, impious manner. This isn’t really technically about God, so I guess I’m safe. A new Pope was elected today. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger is now Pope Benedict XVI. I’m not Catholic, at least anymore, although I was baptized Catholic. My opinion of the election of Ratzinger is only from the perspective of how the Catholic church, in it’s far-reaching influence, will affect my life as a non-catholic living in a country controlled by the religious right. I intended this post to be more humorous, but before I get to that, I thought I’d make a few observations from things I’ve read. Ratzinger has been a strict defender of Catholic orthodoxy for the past 23 years. He was head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, which is basically the modern successor to the Inquisition (the name was changed in 1908). An article in Reuters said,
In that office, Ratzinger disciplined Latin American “liberation theology” theologians, denounced homosexuality and gay marriage and pressured Asian priests who saw non-Christian religions as part of God’s plan for humanity.
I’ve also read that at the age of 15, Ratzinger, a German, was a member of the Nazi Youth, although most say he was involuntarily drafted.
There are a lot of catholics who are dissapointed with this choice, saying that his strict adherence to age-old doctrine will keep the church from moving forward with society. I’m sure there are a lot of east versus west views on this. Some have said that the Catholic Church can now officially kiss off all of Europe, the US, and Canada, while the developing world will hang on maybe, but not after reaching actual development.
Anyway, I’m not trying to piss anyone off here but I couldn’t resist after seeing photos of the new Pope. Is it just me or does the whole institution of the catholic church seem eerily like something out of Star Wars? Judge for yourself.
