This post is a little overdue but better late then never. A group of us went up to Mammoth Mountain to do a little skiing the weekend before last. It was a BLAST. According to the lift ticket on my ski jacket that I dug out of a box, the last time I went skiing was in 2000 at Stevens just east of Seattle. Mammoth is located about 8 hours north of San Diego in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation of about 11,000 ft.; at least I’m guessing it was 11 since the sign at the highest point I was skiing at read just over 10,000 and I wasn’t quite at the top.
Anyway, there was 6 of us all together: Dylan, Tyler, Jakob, Nick, Bill and myself. We went up on Thursday and returned on Sunday night. I only skied for one day, mostly because the weather kept moving in and it was snowing like crazy. The funny thing about Mammoth is that you only reach the snow line about a mile from the actual resort. So you go from zero snow on the ground to blizzard conditions with 20 foot snow banks on the sides of the roads all within about a 1 mile distance. It’s like driving into some fake Disney or Epcot snow village where they create the illusion of a real place… except it is real.
Tyler posted some pictures from the weekend over at his blog. I’ve linked to them below.
Enjoy.

I’ve mentioned a few times on here that my older brother Scott died of a brain tumor a few years ago. Well a friend is participating in the Ride for Research for the Brain Tumor Society in memory of several loved ones including Scott.
“The BRAIN TUMOR SOCIETY exists to find a cure for brain tumors. They improve the quality of life of brain tumor patients, survivors and their families by providing access to psychosocial support, information and resources. They raise funds to advance carefully-selected research projects to enhance treatments and to find a cure.”
The 12th annual Ride for Research is happening in May. Please consider making a tax-deductable donation to support the team’s fundraising goal. Every little bit helps!

Tech Trends.
I hadn’t heard of this service yet before today’s news but it seems pretty cool. Google announced today that they have acquired Writely.com, a web based word processing service. It’s essentially like Word only instead of composing your document on your local computer, you do it through a web browser and the document is stored remotely at the host. This allows you to compose, edit and retrieve the document anywhere you have web access as well as share the document and collaborate on it with other people. It’s pretty cool and definitely a great idea for people who exchange information online a lot. I can see it being helpful if you travel a lot and need access to important documents or proposals or maybe even used as a place to store your resume so it can be printed on the fly at any location.
Check out the beta version at www.writely.com.
